Chelsea vs. Newcastle score: exciting penalty shootout results for the Blues in the Carabao Cup

Chelsea vs. Newcastle

Chelsea vs. Newcastle : Mykhailo Mudryk’s stoppage-time equalizer at Stamford Bridge saved a 1-1 draw against Newcastle United, paving the way for Chelsea to advance to the semifinals via penalties.

Chelsea vs. Newcastle When it seemed like Eddie Howe’s team had done enough to easily defeat the hosts, who struggled to produce for a large portion of the match, Mudryk tapped home after Kieran Trippier made a mistake.

The visitors had taken the lead earlier in the half thanks to a counterattack led by Callum Wilson. But Trippier was again at fault when it came to penalty kicks. Goalie Djordje Petrovic stopped Matt Ritchie’s vital kick to help Chelsea win after he missed one from 12 yards out.

In the last five minutes of their League Cup match, Chelsea looked like they were going to lose to Newcastle, but they rallied late to win the penalty shootout and advance to the quarterfinals.

The Blues will face Middlesbrough, Fulham, and the winner of Wednesday’s other quarterfinal between West Ham and Liverpool in the final four of the following month.

In the sixteenth minute, Callum Wilson took advantage of several blue-shirted defenders’ relatively careless play, giving Chelsea’s Tuesday a miserable start. Wilson collected the ball inside his own half and held onto it until it hit the back of the net.

Up until the final siren of the second half, the score was 1-0, but disaster struck inside Newcastle’s penalty area. After receiving a high, floated cross, Kieran Trippier elected to hold the ball and make an independent clearing attempt. He was caught off guard, though, as Mykhailo Mudryk bounded past him and finished strong the first time around, tying the score at one and triggering extra time.

When Trippier stepped up to take the second chance for the Magpies and pulled it wide of the goal while Djordje Petrovic dove in the opposite direction, his day took a turn for the worse in the penalty shootout. Chelsea made four of four shots from the spot. Petrovic would go on to finish the job in round four, debying Newcastle’s do-or-die attempt, Matt Ritchie.
